General Laborer - Traveling and Local

Position: Barr, Inc. is looking for someone to assist in a variety of duties. This unique position will split duties between general labor in the shop and traveling with our removal team.  Current expectations would be a 50/50 split between working in the shop and on the road with our removal team.

 

Barr, Inc is looking for someone in the Fox Valley Area in WI with a clean driving record and construction and/or mechanical background to join our Refrigeration Removal Team and travel throughout the United States assisting in the removal of commercial coolers/freezers and mechanical refrigeration systems. Tools, personal protective equipment, new vehicles and individual hotel rooms will be provided. Employees will receive a $40 per diem for eating/additional living expenses. Typical working hours for this position may vary, but are typically 10-hour days while on the road. The normal time out on a job is usually between 1-2 weeks but can extend into 3-week jobs at times.

 

Work in the shop is available when there are no projects on the road.  Shop duties may include building pallets/crating of equipment, loading and unloading trucks, cutting wood, bending metal, helping our fabrication shop, yard maintenance, shop clean-up, etc.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass Medical Examination to receive Federal Medical Card
  • Insurable driving record - no serious offenses within the last 7 years
  • Construction/Mechanical/HVAC experience is a plus but not necessary. 
  • Forklift/Scissor lift experience is a plus

 

Job Specifics:

  • Pay Rate: $21 per hour with 5-20 hours of overtime when out on the road
  • $40 per diem a day when out on the road

 

Hours are Monday – Thursday 6:30am-4:30pm  when in the shop.   Fri/Sat/Sun off!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of human resources, including recruiting, onboarding, training, employee relations, and compliance
  • Process and manage payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, supplemental coverage, and retirement plans
  • Maintain and enforce HR policies, procedures, and compliance with state and federal laws
  • Provide support and guidance to managers and staff on HR-related issues
  • Coordinate performance evaluations and support employee development initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Experience processing payroll and managing payroll systems
  • Familiarity with HR software (e.g., BambooHR), QuickBooks, and ERP systems is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines
